In Masterpiece, Luisa Fernanda Alfonso explores and embodies the tradition of character dances such as the Mexican mariachi. From today's perspective, the mariachi is characterised by an excess of drama, expressiveness and sexualisation. Torn between nostalgia and irritation, between fascination and frustration, the performer explores the question of whether and under what conditions these forms of expression are still relevant today. Together with the composer Peter Rubel, Alfonso explores the poetics of musical and dance dynamics that build up and break down, as well as the constant repetition and change - the challenge of making dances and songs exist in harmony and dissonance leads, in case of doubt, to abandonment.
